I Indulge me

As is obvious from my blog name and my writing, I am no spring chicken. In my blog profile it states tha I am 517 years old and was born in the year of the rat. Awesome I thought, that fits. I put 1492 as my birth year because I am a wise ass. Just to get the record straight I turned 70 this year and I never wrote a lick until a year and a half ago. I never dreamed of being a great writer. I never thought I had any talent for writing. I never intended to write until a friend invited me to a class called "Journaling for Older Adults". It is a class that helps you write your life story. I was interested because my dad didn't put anything in writing. Now he's gone and I don't know enough about him. I want my children to know who and what I am and was. So I went to the class and I was introduced to Amy Lusky-Barth, the instructor. I cannot begin to describe the positive influence she has had on me. I am not even going to try. I am going to lead you to her blog and let you read her wonderful writing. If you are in doubt as to whether what you have to say is important, then reading Amy is a must. I have her on my blog roll. (Purple Sage Post) However the post I would like you to read is on "Tuesdays with Amy" and is titled "I Owe it All to Kafka" I have no idea whether I am a writer. I will probably never be published, but because of Amy I will write and write and write. In fact I will indulge myself with writing. Thank you Amy Lusky-Barth

  1. One thing I know for certain after looking at your blog: you are a writer. I, for one, am glad you took that journaling class. And what a gift you are giving your grandchildren by writing down your memories. Thanks for sharing that Kafka link...it expressed beautifully what so many of us feel about the passion for expression that's inside of us, whether it's writing, painting, or any other medium!

I was just reading in my local paper today, HOW popular writing classes for seniors is becoming. Mostly for the same reason you've expressed. I so wish my family would have had the desire to pass their history on to me. Thanks for popping in on me, so I was able to find U!

  6. We seem to have a lot of things in common, in that I didn't start writing until about a year and half ago and I just turned 64. This past winter I signed up for a writing course that was offered through Creative retirement. The course was led by a local writer Gloe Cormie. It was great fun and very helpful in encouraging me to continue writing. It doesn't matter how well I write, it only matters that I write.

  17. Not to equate you with my gramps, but he went to college when he was two years older than you. There is time to be anything you want, whenever you want to be it. Sometimes that is the little solace I have as I grow older whining about lost youth and impending invisibility.
    Thanks for the knocks!

  18. A writer is just what you are now, someone who is driven to put down their thoughts and past them on as a guide to others. Thanks for sharing the link to your inspiring friend.
